BOSCH CAMPUS, BUDAPEST

Drafting the plans of the Kőbánya-Kispest railway station, the masterplan level examination of the huge development area in the direct neighbourhood of the railway station and the clarification of its spatial and urban relationships to the station could not be avoided. The railway station cannot operate in the future without the comprehensive analysis of its immediate and broad environment as the railway infrastructure and the development area must function as an organic unit of city architecture. The currently abandoned area of the Vaspálya Street, next to the railways, needs to be rearranged, and, at the same time, an urban square must be established to function as the main gate of the intermodal junction serving departures and arrivals, so that the square can become the main gate of the development area and the “entrance hall” of the railway station. The internal space is to be protected both acoustically and visually from the railway traffic by a large-scale parking house. In the area, a transversal main axis is created for pedestrians, whereas an internal driveway with a reduced traffic leads between the second rows of buildings and serves the office buildings on both sides. The planned construction will result in a varied mass composition, as the buildings alternate with active green surfaces. The aim is to establish a sustainable business park that can operate in the long run, for it has been designed according to cutting-edge architectural principles, it creates a comfortable and high-quality environment for people working there, and building density is satisfying from a financial aspect yet it does not overburden the area with masses of people. The campus needs to bring built and natural environment in harmony, addressing the 21st century, and not face the Gyömrő Street with a space wall. The optimal orientation of the buildings is east-west along the north-south longitudinal axis, and every building uses renewable energy. The structure of the area will follow the construction at the Bosch plot on the other side of the Sibrik Miklós Street. The plan can serve as a model for conceptually launching the development of other rustbelt areas.
