SURF CENTRE, CSOPAK

The view from the shore of Csopak shows the Tihany bay; the calm shore on the fringe of the village is idyllic. The Client requested a windsurf centre and a fishing hut on a section of the lakeside protected by reeds. In the architecturally heterogenous environment, our concept reaches back to an old prototype: at the beginning of the 20th century, the lake was full of small bathhouses and changing cabins made of wood. Our plan suggests two such buildings on the lakeshore, which are both modern and reminiscent of the past, as their structure recalls the traditional character, but also makes a rather temporary, harmonious effect. Both little houses are prefabricated, light structures, which can be erected quickly and fast due to their wood construction. Their heat-insulated panels are made out of larch mounted on plywood. The two-storey surf centre contains a communal space and a changing room on the ground floor and three bedrooms on the floor above. The one-storey house serving fishermen has a storage place and room where fish can be cleaned. The impressive architectural solution and the form would be a strong gesture closing the Örkény István promenade, at the same time offering the opportunity for a lively water life in the lovely site next to the Kereked Yacht Club. Shaping the little buildings, the use of close-to-nature materials was a priority, but organic forms were deliberately avoided in the outside. Reduced, geometric construction of mass is a synonym of artificial intervention, and the designed, formal manifestation of human creation. The compact, closed structure is the most optimal regarding energy, as its construction is also simple and technically transparent, while its use is practical and morally lasting, for it requires little maintenance.
